Free Mobile Game Promotion

High Noon DrifterClickgamer is giving away a free Windows Mobile Pocket PC game — “High Noon Drifter – Dead Man’s Gulch” — to celebrate/promote the redesign of its two sites (Clickapps being the other one). The game includes over 1000 frames of animation and hidden bonus levels, and is being touted as “the highest quality PDA game ever offered for free”.

Giving away your product for free is not normally a good business model – but it can be. Of course, this game isn’t really free, you pay for it by noticing the brand Clickgamer, going to the site and becoming familiar with how to use it. I’m sure everyone is familiar with free/shareware, which provides the first few levels of the game or application as a taste in the hopes you’ll like it so much you’ll buy the full version. I (and I’m sure, many people) never bought a full version because I didn’t have a check book and they were normally based in West Oblivion, UK. However, with mobile devices its different – there is an easy way to charge for products and to deliver them to the consumer, so the business model of giving away free things to increase mindshare could be very profitable…
