India Focuses On Cheap Broadband To Push Knowledge Economy

Yahoo! News: India wants the rapid roll-out of cheap Internet and broadband services to ensure more jobs in knowledge industries such as software development and outsourcing, India’s technology minister Dayanidhi Maran said.
“Data services will grow exponentially. Broadband will add to greater productivity at work,” he added on Tuesday.India is wooing international telecom companies to expand operations and invest the considerable amounts needed to increase the number of Internet subscribers to 40 million, including 20 million broadband connections, by the end of 2010.
