3G Focus Shift From Voice To Content

Research and Markets has announced the addition of 3G User Demand Analysis for 3G Content and Applications in Asia to their offering…Most of Asia’s operators are aggressively moving toward content provision as voice APRUs decline. With 3G technology, the paradigm shift from voice to content becomes the primary business model for operators and content providers.”
On this topic, I think content will become important as a differentiating factor. While voice ARPUs (average revenue per user) are declining they will remain the majority of telco revenues for quite a while. However, everyone does voice and pretty much everyone does it well, so people will be unlikely to choose to go with a particular mobile service because of the voice service, they’ll choose it based on the content offered (or a special handset deal, or brand…anything but voice).
