VNU, Gawker Deal Translates Gizmodo Into Six Languages

VNU NV has an intriguing deal with Gawker to translate popular gadget blog Gizmodo into French, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. There’s also a UK version and one for Belgium. The content originating with Gawker U.S. will make up roughly half of the European versions being launched with local freelance bloggers acting as translators and contributing the rest. VNU exec Dominique Bosso told AP the company hopes to make money from advertising; Gawker will get a fee based partly on traffic and revenues. Instead of starting from scratch in those markets, Gizmodo will have a head start by being part of VNU’s network.
At the same time, VNU is starting a personal blog service based on TypePad. Basic blogs are free with fees for more elaborate setups.
