CES ’06: Intel’s Digital Lifestyle Shift

So begins our coverage of CES…Staci will be flying out for CES tonight. Anyway, this is the 20th time in the last 2-3 years that we’re hearing Intel’s shift towards a digital media/lifestyle player…we’ll play along.

Intel’s strategy, based on a new generation of multimedia technology and chips, will be introduced this coming week at CES. Paul Otellini, CEO, is expected to spend much of his time talking about new music and video features that will be made possible by the new home entertainment technology, called Viiv, and Core, a low-powered chip that will eclipse the Pentium M chip for PCs.

Under the guidance of Eric Kim, a senior VP at Intel and former marketing guru for Samsung, Intel is poised to recast itself as a warm and fuzzy consumer company.
