thePlatform Gets $8 Million in Second Round Funding

thePlatform, a Seattle-based digital audio and video publishing company focused on broadband and mobile sectors, has received a second round of funding, led by Spark Capital, a new $260 million VC fund which opened up recently to invest in digital media sector. Previous investor Generation Partners also invested in this round. The comany did not officially announce the amount, but an SEC filing pegs the funding amount at $8 million.

The company recently signed on Starz to power its Vongo online movie service, and on the mobile side, signed on Amp’d Mobile for content delivery on the handsets. It is also powering the Verizon Vcast service.
