Chuck D Forms Mobile Content Firm

Rapper Chuck D, co-founder of legendary rap group Public Enemy, has joined the rarified field of rappers and hip-hop artists’ forays into mobile content. He has formed a mobile music aggregator, launching a distribution company to hawk ringtones, voice tones and other clips from urban artists, much along the lines of Def Jam Mobile. P Diddy (or whatever he is called these days announce himself as an MVNO at last year’s CTIA)
The mobile distribution business will sell content through both carrier decks and a consumer-facing Web storefront, and is powered by m-Qube now part of Verisign.
‘This is not a vanity thing for him or me,’ said Walter Leaphart, Chuck D’s manager. ‘This is a business to give people a larger share of the pie; for them to see some direct revenue streamsâ
