South African Mobile Startup Red Five Labs Gets Funding

Red Five Labs – a South African startup that has developed a technology which allows applications to run on all smartphones irrespective of their operating systems – has received venture funding from HBD Venture Capital and the Innovation Fund, an instrument of the National Department of Science and Technology. They have jointly invested R4.5-million ($0.65 million).
Red Five Lab’s technology enables applications written for one type of phone to run on another – and it doesn’st matter if the OS is written in .NET or Symbian. The technology removes the need for applications – whether these are games, screensavers or calculators – to be rewritten for each type of smartphone. HBD Venture Capital and the Innovation Fund are South Africa’s leading early stage venture investors.
