McClatchy Interactive To Consolidate Locations; West Coast Ops Moving To Raleigh

Brain drain … McClatchy Interactive hopes to save money by consolidating the San Jose operation that was part of the Knight Ridder acquisition with existing operations in Raleigh, N.C. KR Digital was renamed McClatchy Interactive West after the deal closed. Christian Hendricks, president of McClatchy Interactive and VP-interactive media for the parent company, told The News & Observer he wants to save money by consolidating software development, computer programming and customer service under one roof. It’s also viewed as a way to better merge strategies from the two companies. A small office might be kept in San Jose.
The San Jose operation had about 200 employees at the time of the merger but is down to about 140 as people left in advance of a possible consolidation. Relocation is being offered to some but N&O was told not a lot of people are expected to move.
