SMS Marketing Going Mainstream

Stories about SMS marketing have changed in tone from “what a whacky idea” and “no-one will accept marketing on their phone” to “hey, all the cool companies are doing it”… There’s a particular difficulty in the US where people pay to receive SMS as well as to send, which is different from most countries. “Verizon Wireless says marketers have shown tremendous interest in arranging text-messaging campaigns where recipients wouldn’t be charged, though no deals have been cut as yet.”
And according to Frost & Sullivan analyst Gerry Purdy: “Probably the most important medium for advertising in the 21st century is going to be the cell phone, not print media, not billboards. It’s just a matter of time รข
