It’s Good To Be The King

Casual games have been on the rise over the last few years. The great success of games like Bookworm, by PopCap Games, and the game site Pogo have proven that not all gaming belongs in the basement. Further evidence of the growing popularity of cheap, casual games has come in the form of the exceptionally creepy Burger King.

The Burger King XBox/XBox 360 games have sold over 2 million copies, according to a report released by Microsoft. Burger King, in conjunction with Blitz Games and Microsoft, released 3 Burger King related games for sale at the fast food chains locations. The games, titled Big Bumpin’, Sneak King and Pocket Bike Racers, are priced at $3.99 and can be played on either the XBox or the XBox 360. What started as an obvious attempt to connect with the younger generations has turned into quite a success.

According to a report by Gamasutra, Russ Klein, Chief Marketing Officer for Burger King, had this to say:

“We created the BK Xbox games as a unique form of all-family interactive entertainment, and we’re thrilled with the response thus far. Most video games are considered a blockbuster when they reach the 1 million mark in sales, and this collection has achieved twice that.”

If I’ve done my math properly, that puts the Burger King games up there with Gears of War. Maybe we can expect a crossover?
