IOL Broadband Ties Up With BSNL For IPTV

IPTV content provider IOL Broadband has tied up with India’s largest telco BSNL for IPTV services. BSNL has started trials in Bangalore, where the service is expected to be launched on January 14, 2007. The rollout is expected in other cities following this. BSNL has over 700,000 broadband ADSL subscribers all over India. It’s not clear if the tie-up is applicable to only BSNL’s Bangalore Circle.
IOL Broadband said in a statemnt that it has also signed a revenue sharing agreement for its IPTV service with Anytime – a consortium of major Hollywood Studios, comprising Disney, FOX, Warner, Universal and others. This will give the company access to Hollywood block-busters for IPTV customers in India.
IOL Broadband has also been a favourite in Indian stockmarkets with its stock doubling in the last one month alone. Today also the stock hit the 5 per cent upper circuit to close at Rs 270 levels.
Bennett, Coleman and Company (BCCL) and Maula Trading Co recently picked up small equity stake in IOL Broadband.
IOL already has a tie-up with MTNL in Mumbai for providing IPTV content. MTNL has a tie-up with Time Broadband for IPTV services in Delhi.
