BuzzLogic Raises $9.6 Million First Round

SF-based BuzzLogic announced a $9.6 million first round led by Adams Capital Management, incumbent Ackerley Partners and Transcosmos Investments & Business Development. That amount includes a seed round of $1.5 million raised last year that has been converted, according to CEO Rob Crumpler. He said the blog/social media intelligence start-up has more than 90 beta customers (not all paying yet) following thousands of “conversations.” The basic service starts at $500 a month; each topic-specific conversation runs about $100 per month. The company was founded in 2004; Crumpler told me they spent the intervening time perfecting the algorithms and the on-demand service, working for more than a year on little more than minimum wage or without being paid. They’ll use the funding to continue to develop applications and marketing, among other things. Release.
