Global 3G Mobile Phone Users Topped 100 Million in 2006

China’s CCID Consulting has reported that the number of 3G users topped 100 million globally in 2006, “far exceeding the growth of GSM users during the same period”…which is unsurprising since GSM is a mature technology. Anyway, 3G users use more content and services, so strong growth in the area is a plus. Wikipedia’s 3G page notes that “according to the GSA, in December 2005 there were 100 3G networks in operation in 40 countries in the world”, and in March this year Hutchison revealed it had 14.7 million 3G subscribers globally.
