Hong Kong Plans 3G Auction In Q4

Hong Kong plans to auction off spectrum to be used to constrcut a CDMA2000 3G network in the fourth quarter of this year. The reasoning is to “contribute to the harmonization of popular mobile services with the Chinese mainland as well as other parts of the world” … China has 30 million CDMA2000 users, according to Thomson Dialog. The thing is, Hong Kong has already awarded four 3G licenses (going by Wikipedia) and there’s less than 7 million people living in the area. I also think (but I’m not 100 percent sure) that all the networks in Hong Kong are GSM, so this would be the first CDMA network.
