Thomson Confirms Talks With Reuters

Not that this was a mystery by any means last week, but Thomson confirmed today it approached the board of Reuters bbout a possible bid for it, and said the move “may or may not lead to an offer” for Reuters. The Canadian info giant didn’t say anything else in the statement.
Toronto Globe and Mail: The revelations of Thomson’s interest could push competing bids to emerge in the coming weeks. The list would likely include major publishers and private equity players, who have been eager acquirers of digital media assets. Buyout firms Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Carlyle Group are among those in talks to buy Thomson’s Learning division, which would provide roughly $5-billion toward the Reuters bid.
