Location-Based Software Firm deCarta Gets $15 Million Funding

deCarta, the location-based services software firm, has received $15-million in its third round of funding. The round was led by existing investor Norwest Venture Partners, and other existing investors, Mobius Venture Capital and Cardinal Venture Capital, were also participants in the round. Founded in 1996 and HQ’d in San Jose, CA, deCarta’s software is deployed on Google (NSDQ: GOOG), Ask.com, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and Sprint (NYSE: S). In the mobile side specifically, besides Sprint, it is used by social networking service Loopt, Orange, Verizon Wireless, Helio and HAndmark, among others.
