Online revenue for Lee Enterprises (NYSE: LEE), the publisher of the St. Louis-Post Dispatch and various regional dailies, grew 69.5 percent for September, coming in at $5.7 million. The company said it had benefited from favorable tax settlements and the extra week for this September compared to last year, with total operating revenues up 8.7 percent to $99 million. The Davenport, Iowa-based company’s September results also included:
— Combined print and online retail advertising increased 9.8 percent to $40.3 million in September compared to last year, though year to date, that segment was essentially flat.
— Combined print and online classified advertising revenue rose 7.7 percent for the month with $30.9 million, though year-to-date, that same segment fell a slight 0.8 percent to $28.5 million.
— In particular, employment ad revenue was $10.9 million up 20.6 percent, while automotive was down 4.5 percent to $6.3 million. Real estate was flat $6.9 million, with “other” rising 10 percent to $6.7 million. Release
