To Go International With Its MP3 Music Store; Sometime and Somewhere

A slightly vaporware announcement from (NSDQ: AMZN), no doubt trying to piggyback the Midem music conference starting this weekend in Cannes (our UK editor Robert Andrews is on the ground there): it says it will roll out its MP3 music store internationally this year, though no specific countries or timing was mentioned. The MP3/DRM-free music store launched last year in September and now has music from all four majors and indies. The countries most likely to get it first would be Canada, UK, Germany and France, where has major presence.

No data yet from Amazon on the performance of the music service so far. We might hear some numbers later this week on Jan. 30, as the company announces its Q4 earnings.
