Today in Mobile

Apple this morning filed a patent-infringement suit against HTC, claiming the Korean handset maker has violated 20 iPhone patents. Apple is no stranger to the patent courts, of course, and is currently embroiled in a nasty tangle with Nokia. But this move appears to be an attempt to slow the momentum of Android, Google’s mobile OS that has suddenly become Apple’s biggest threat. It’s unlikely the suit will do much to cause Android to stumble — while HTC is Android’s most prolific manufacturer, there are plenty of others — but it illustrates just how competitive mobile has become in the era of the superphone.
