Today in Mobile

Apple is hosting its iPhone OS 4 event today in Cupertino, and Steve Jobs is using the platform to deliver some news. The company’s mobile operating system finally supports multitasking, which eliminates what had been a glaring vulnerability in the era of the superphone. Jobs also unveiled the Game Center, which will serve as an Xbox Live-type community for iPhone and iPad gamers. Perhaps most interesting, though, is the introduction of iAd, which is Apple’s first official foray into mobile advertising and springs from its pick-up of Quattro Wireless. iAd isn’t making much news today compared to Apple’s other announcements, but make no mistake: Apple has every intention of becoming a major player in mobile advertising. And they’re very well positioned to succeed.
