Today in Mobile

China Mobile today posted a dramatic slowdown in quarterly net profit growth that missed analysts’ expectations. The world’s largest mobile operator attributed the disappointing quarter to increased competition and the addition of low-income subscribers in rural areas. But China Mobile also said it added nearly 6 million subscribers in March, including 3.4 million 3G users. That marks the first month in which 3G net user adds outpaced those for 2G services. Which means that there is still a vast amount of opportunity for mobile data in the nation’s largest wireless market.
