So what’s the deal with Hulu’s purported subscription plan? First reports said it would launch by May 24th, which is next Monday, which clearly isn’t going to happen. Is it still on track? I’m guessing it is, although I doubt NBC Universal, which is sweating out FCC approval of its merger with Comcast, is in any hot hurry to court the inevitable controversy it will cause. Securing all of the necessary rights to charge for programming online, even when you already control most of them, was also always going to be a protracted process. Especially now, when YouTube is making its own concerted pitch to become a viable commercial outlet for online video.
