Today in Cloud

Geva Perry’s recent post on GigaOM sparked some good discussion on the need for a LAMP-based PaaS offering. However, whether or not a LAMP-based PaaS is necessary, I suspect we will see one emerge relatively soon. At this point in the cloud game, providers are as intent on letting users replicate their existing environments in the cloud as they are on pushing a new way of doing things. Application development should evolve along with cloud computing, and that the OS and app server should lose importance over time. In the meantime, however, why wouldn’t someone appease the large contingency of LAMP developers with a LAMP PaaS, whatever that looks like?
