Twitter continues to grow rapidly, according to new stats from the traffic-measurement service Royal Pingdom. Just six months after crossing the one billion tweets per month mark, the service hit two billion in May. And Twitter is also moving to add new features that in some cases compete with third-party apps, something that has been a source of tension for the company: the latest feature is a built-in link shortener that will wrap around long links and provide more security, as well as giving the service more data about what people are sharing.
