Lost amid the flurry of coverage around SeaMicro’s big product launch are CSC’s new Trusted Cloud Services offerings and roadmap. From my perspective, the highlights are its CloudLab test-dev service and its Cloud Gateway web portal. Neither idea is particularly novel in its own regard, but CSC seems to have executed expertly on its mission to deliver services that merge the simplicity of cloud computing with enterprise-grade features. A prime example of this is a lack of credit-card payment; customers get resources on demand, but they reserve the quantity and time upfront through a web purchase order. It’s certainly easier traditional provisioning, but it also lets large organizations keep some level of control over their expenditures and, to some degree, their cloud providers.
