Playdom Follows Up Its Funding Round With Another Acquisition

Playdom, which raised $33 million in a funding round earlier this week, is buying yet another social games startup. It has purchased five-year-old Hive7, which is behind several popular Facebook titles, including Knighthood, which has 147,620 users.

In announcing its funding round Wednesday, Playdom didn’t specify what it would use the new cash for, but the company has been buying social game startups at a rapid pace; it has now made eight investments in social game companies over the last eight months.

In a release, CEO John Pleasants acknowledges that volume, saying that the company’s “structure” lets it easily add stand-alone development studios. Rival Zynga apparently sees that ease; it has been on a buying spree of its own in recent months.
