Entertainment News Site HitFix Raises $1.6 Million

HitFix, which is battling some much bigger players in the online entertainment news space, has raised $1.6 million in a round of funding from angel investment network Tech Coast Angels. The site, which was founded in December 2008, is trying to differentiate itself from rivals by offering “insider entertainment news” — “without the pesky gossip.” It puts a big emphasis on original reporting and analysis. Current headlines include an interview with members of the band Interpol and a slideshow previewing the Emmys.

The Irvine, Calif.-based site claims more than one million unique monthly users — and both Compete and Quntcast figures show traffic rising quickly. Some more details in the announcement.
