Bookings Low? Google Ad Takes Over YouTube Homepage
On election morning, the Conservatives paid YouTube £50,000 for the UK homepage’s main ad spot. Today, an even bigger ad takeover has gone to… YouTube’s owner itself.
Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is running a massive takeover ad on the YouTube UK homepage in animated Flash, promoting its various World Cup-oriented offerings across Google Maps, Google Search, YouTube and Android…

YouTube’s UK sell sheet for homepage ads doesn’t give prices, but it’s previously been reported that similarly-sized U.S. ads cost $175,000 plus a further $50,000 spending commitment.
Whatever the price, GooTube seems to see more value in advertising Google than in selling the spot to advertisers.
