Today in Cloud

Guy Rosen published his August 2010 “State of the Cloud” numbers today, and includes a year-over-year comparison in which every cloud provider but one saw 100-plus percent growth. Over at GigaOM, Om pointed out that AWS not only has a healthy web-hosting business, but one that’s attracting big names. All this leads into my Weekly Update (which publishes on Sunday), in which I argue that present-day revenue numbers and profit margins don’t speak as clearly to the potential of cloud computing as does sheer growth. If I were a stakeholder, I’d be pretty happy about constant (and significant) growth, knowing that the money (or more of it) will follow eventually.
