Today in Mobile

Saudi Arabia today made good on its threat to kill BlackBerry service due to security concerns, leaving 700,000 users without mobile email. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates is being a little less hasty, promising to suspend BlackBerry service in October if its security issues aren’t addressed. Research In Motion is in talks with both nations, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is leading the talks with UAE. RIM may have been slow to respond to both governments — and Saudi Arabia may have been needlessly impulsive — but I’m guessing we’ll see RIM develop some solutions quickly now that the company knows these nations aren’t messing around.
