Interesting when a multichannel operator points to Netflix in order to avoid further regulation of the pay-TV business, but that’s exactly what Verizon just did. The company was filing comments with the FCC in opposition to AllVid’s proposed suggestion of a common set of technical standards for Internet content. No doubt, Verizon is the bad-boy among the pay-TV ranks, and probably is going to side with newer entrants as a matter of course, so as not to be forced to move at the glacial pace that Cablelabs has forced the cable industry to move with its own set of “common technical standards”.
