The GridWise Global Forum in Washington D.C. wraps up today — let’s take a look at what we’ve learned from it so far. The conference got underway with IBM CEO and President Sam Palmisano warning the crowd that consumers haven’t yet been factored into the smart grid equation — but whether it’s utilities, retailers, broadband and telecom providers, or someone else who makes that connection remains to be seen. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jon Wellinghoff said that electric vehicle owners need to be able to get paid for power they provide to the grid, and General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt told the New York Times’ Tom Friedman that U.S. energy policy is “stupid” and needs to be decoupled from short-term political issues. Energy Secretary Steven Chu is wrapping up the forum right now — stay tuned for more details.
