Today in Cloud

It’s a fitting end to a week full of Oracle news to hear that Larry Ellison now has his eyes on a chipmaker and/or NetApp as potential acquisitions. It’s fitting because some of the week’s news was customer and partner backlash at Oracle’s increasingly all-Oracle product strategy. Throw a major storage and/or a commodity processor business line, and these concerns grow even larger. IT choices are plentiful these days, from competitive vendors to cloud providers, and too much more of Oracle’s approach could send customers heading for the hills. Of course, Larry knows many things I don’t — including what his customers want. If they’re not going anywhere, why not take their every IT cent?
