Verve Wireless Raises $7 Million More To Deliver The News Over Mobile

Verve Wireless, which is helping hundreds of media companies worldwide create and monetize news applications for smartphones, said it has raised $7 million in a round led by BlueRun Ventures.

The San Diego, CA-based company said the capital will go towards the development and expansion of Verve’s local ad network and publisher platform. Other investors include The Associated Press, which initially invested in July 2008. In total, Verve has raised $9.5 million, a spokesperson said.

Verve has created apps for companies, including McClatchy (NYSE: MNI), Belo Interactive and The AP. Verve Wireless got a big vote of confidence earlier this year when it partnered with the interactive unit of the Audit Bureau of Circulations to measure the audience on mobile applications, mobile browsers and tablets.
