Nokia Ovi Store Gets 2.3 M Downloads Daily

When thoughts turn toward the big app stores, Apple’s (s aapl) iTunes store and the Android (s goog) Market come to mind. We really should include Nokia (s nok) in that list, as the Ovi Store is currently seeing 2.3 million downloads per day. That may be due to the 200,000 new customers that are signing up daily at the store.

Though Nokia currently has a small presence in the U.S., the Ovi Store does business in 190 countries. The company may be poised to enter the U.S. market in a big way, so it will soon be even bigger. Nokia customers are already downloading more apps daily than Research in Motion’s (S RIMM) BlackBerry customers.

The Ovi ecosystem is not just apps, with Ovi Maps, Ovi Chat, Ovi Mail and Ovi Music. Ovi Music has 11 million tracks up for sale globally, and Nokia claims it has 17 million active Chat and Mail accounts. Ovi Maps now provides navigation service in 78 countries.

Having such an international presence helps all the Ovi businesses — especially the app store. In a recent interview with Nokia, the company claimed that developers reap 18 to 22 percent increased sales when apps are available in localized languages. Nokia is in a better position than most companies to take advantage of this phenomenon.
