You might say that, unlike a phone, a TV set is primarily an entertainment rather than communications device. But you might also say that Facebook is more entertaining than informative. Mike Wolf thinks Facebook might make a TV play, for the ad dollars and because they’re both such huge time sinks. I could easily see an on-screen widget – pop-up TV-related status-update streams – or even a program guide from Facebook. I imagine the future TV interface will involve friends’ recommendations somehow, beyond just collaborative filtering. But it will need video promotion and search as well. Could Facebook provide the whole thing, or just plug into Tivo?
