Today in Cloud

So, I get in the car this afternoon and what do I hear but Microsoft advertising its cloud solutions on NPR. Of course, radio ads are just the latest in Microsoft’s cloud advertising; we’ve been seeing a frustrated mother editing family photos via the cloud for weeks now. I think Microsoft’s ad campaign is significant for two reasons: (1) it illustrates the degree to which the term “cloud” has been bastardized since its inception; and (2) it might help Microsoft succeed in its post-PC strategy. CIOs can lag on “cloud computing” all they want if consumers and SMBs start buying into “the cloud.”
