Today in Connected Consumer

It looks like Real Networks, one of the early innovators in streaming and media players, hasn’t given up entirely on its consumer-facing media software business despite years of decline and disappointment (including a costly and ultimately losing court battle over a DVD-ripping software RealDVD). Turns out the company is set to release a new cross-platform media management software next week, bringing it in more direct competition with Apple. Will they succeed? Too early to tell, but while the company’s track record of late has been poor in consumer software, there is no doubt there is room in the market for a good media management solution (other than iTunes).
