Jimmy Pitaro is bringing on one of his top content execs from Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) days to remake the Disney (NYSE: DIS) brand online. As SVP of Disney.com, Mark Walker will be responsible for product development, marketing, programming and operations for Disney.com and other Disney-branded sites. He’ll report to Pitaro, the Disney Interactive Media Group co-president responsible for online.
Walker had some interaction with entertainment at Yahoo as the biz dev VP for Yahoo Media; early on he was an exec at BMG Entertainment. But his focus for most of the past two years was on building Yahoo’s news and info area, including an emphasis on local, more personalization and video. It will be interesting to see how that translates into kids and family.
News of Walker’s departure from Yahoo and arrival at Disney was first reported by All Things D earlier this week; the official announcement is today. Paul Yanover, who was EVP and managing director of Disney Online, resigned late last year after Pitaro became co-president of DIMG.
Earlier this week, DIMG laid off 2 percent of its workforce, marking a 7 percent reduction since the beginning of the year. This week’s layoffs all came from the online area.
