Animoto & Instagram: Perfect Together?

What do you get when you cross Instagram’s funky filters with Animoto’s drop-dead simple video creation tools? Instamoto? Anigram? Whatever you call it, for many users it could be the perfect way to make interesting, visually stunning video slideshows on the fly.

Cloud-based video creation company Animoto makes it easy for users to build interactive videos using their Instagram photo libraries, giving Instagram users yet another way to take their sepia-toned old timey photos and share them with friends. And for Animoto, it’s one more way to tap into photos they’ve already taken. (To see a video of how the two work together, click here.)

With the Animoto iPhone app, users can upload Instagram from their Camera Roll. Or, if they’ve uploaded Instagram photos from Facebook, they can grab the images from there as well. Once pictures and a soundtrack have been chosen, Animoto will automatically put them together in a video slideshow that can be shared via email, Facebook, Twitter or even copied to DVD.

Animoto operates on a freemium model, which allows users to create videos of up to 30 seconds for free — to make a longer video, they have to subscribe to the service for $5 a month or $30 a year. Power users that want custom backgrounds, free HD video, a commercial license, an unbranded player or the ability to use up to 1,000 licensed music tracks will pay $39 a month or $249 a year.

Recently, Animoto has been expanding by striking partnerships with companies like Kodak, (s EK) integrating its cloud-based video creation tools with their online photo storage products. Doing so potentially opens up the opportunity for it to attract new users and expand its business beyond just Web-savvy early adopters. While Instagram users also tend to be tech-savvy, they’re also very engaged, passionate users — and catering to them by helping get their photos in slideshow format could be one way to raise visibility of the Animoto brand.
