The Wall Street Journal is reporting this morning that AT&T has hired bankers to advise it on selling assets as part of its plan to acquire T-Mobile USA. Those assets — which would likely include customers and spectrum — could be worth more than $8 billion, according to the Journal. Such a move would obviously help increase the odds of the acquisition, which is seeing opposition at both the state and federal levels. But it would also substantially add to the $39 billion price tag AT&T has agreed to for the struggling carrier.
