Today in Connected Consumer

Netflix is set to announce third-quarter earnings today, which should tell us something about how much damage its recent PR fiascoes have actually done to the company in material terms. We already know subscriber numbers will be down for the third quarter. The key metric to watch will be management’s guidance for the fourth quarter. In the meantime, Netflix is doing its best to change the subject by announcing the rollout of its streaming service in the UK and Ireland in early 2012. The announcement lacked some key details, however, like pricing, the available catalog and an exact date of launch, which is a pretty good indication that the announcement was rushed out this morning in hopes of distracting from this afternoon’s earnings release.
