Siemens announced today a 6 megawatt wind turbine that will be targeted at offshore wind installation. Vestas has introduced a 7 megawatt blade and Anders Soe-Jensen, the president of Vestas’ offshore wind division hasn’t ruled out the possibility of 10 megawatt blades. Wind power is already the most price competitive renewable energy and if the challenges of operating wind turbines in harsh ocean environments can be overcome, the technology looks more and more as if it could one day be the first renewable cheaper than fossil fuels.
