Today in Mobile

This insightful CNET post takes a hard look at how both MetroPCS and Leap Wireless posted mediocre fourth-quarter performances. As Verizon Wireless and AT&T roll out lightning-fast LTE networks, the prepaid guys have staked their claims to lesser-performing LTE networks, highlighting the difference between the big guys and their smaller, discount counterparts. Meanwhile, three out of the four tier-one carriers now offer the iPhone, which remains the lone iconic device in mobile. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the prepaid guys continue to struggle until they can offer A) faster networks or B) Apple products.
