Official Samsung Galaxy S III images, specs unofficially leak

After being a no-show at this month’s Mobile World Congress event, the Samsung Galaxy S III is appearing on the web, courtesy of a leaked image passed to¬†GSM Helpdesk Netherlands. Along with a purported official press image of the expected smartphone are most of the hardware specifications.

The Android 4.0 device looks to have Samsung’s latest version of TouchWiz software atop the user interface, similar to the Android 4.0 upgrades being pushed to the Galaxy S II. A 4.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus HD screen is expected with 1280 x 720 resolution; an improvement over the PenTile screen on Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus handset.
The new phone is expected to run on Samsung’s 1.5 GHz quad-core chip, 1 GB of memory and offer 32 GB of internal storage. A big upgrade should be the camera, coming it at 12 megapixels, although picture quality will also depend on the optics that Samsung chooses to use. The Galaxy S III will reportedly handle 1080p video at 60 frames per second and video chatting with a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera.
The rumored date for a Galaxy S III launch is May 22 and Samsung is likely to hold its own launch event, similar to how Apple debuts new hardware. Let the comments about Samsung copying Apple yet again commence in 3… 2…. 1!
