Two conflicting rumors are being reported about the release of Windows 8, which is slated for later next year: WMPoweruser cites an interview with a Microsoft executive who states flatly that all Windows Phone handsets will get the upgrade (dubbed Apollo), while The Verge points to unnamed sources who claim devices running Mango will not receive Windows 8. Meanwhile, as ZDNet noted here, Microsoft is carefully avoiding answering the very simple question. My take: I can understand there may be technical problems with upgrading existing handsets, and sales of the Nokia Lumia 900 would surely slow if MSFT confirmed they won’t get Apollo. But the company runs a huge risk here if it effectively abandons its flagship handset so soon after its high-profile launch.
