I want to direct your attention this morning to this eyebrow-raising piece from The New York Times, which bemoans that we “have sacrificed communication for mere connection.” This is the latest of several stories I’ve read lately that claim our interaction with devices comes at the cost of interacting with each other. I can understand that to a point — I’ve caught myself reading emails or checking my Twitter feed while talking to my kids — but I don’t understand the sky-is-falling mentality behind the recent stories. Being connected truly brings value to our lives (why would we do it if it didn’t?), and it doesn’t have to mean sacrificing face-to-face conversation.
