Today in Cleantech

Facebook disclosed this week that 23 percent of the power in its energy mix is “green,” and I presume by green the company means non greenhouse gas emitting and renewable. The disclosure was immediately met with approval from Greenpeace’s Gary Cook, who was embroiled in a dispute early this year with Apple about exactly how large Apple’s NC data center was going to be and how much of it’s energy would be clean. Facebook was the victim of Greenpeace’s “Unfriend Coal” campaign, and the social network giant’s transparency is a further sign that Greenpeace really has succeeded in shaming companies into being open about how clean their power is.
