Amazon is making a few moves ahead of a much-anticipated press conference next week: The company launched its Appstore in the U.K. and four other European markets, and it pulled sales of the Kindle Fire, claiming the tablet is sold out. The latter move certainly signals the rollout of a new tablet, but rumors persist that the company may produce a smartphone. I don’t think we’ll see an Amazon phone — establishing carrier partnerships is a daunting task — but I will be watching carefully for details on a new tablet. Amazon has made only a modest dent in the tablet market, and the competition is beginning to get intense.
